Karate
My introduction to karate came when I was persuaded to attend a training session while still in year nine at secondary school. I instantly enjoyed all aspects of the sport and joined a local club. At the time the club was titled Bu Jutsu Ryu Karate Kai and was affiliated with the United Kingdom All Styles Karate Organisation (UKASKO).
I have have trained between one and three times each week and whilst at university, I travelled the 74 miles between Portsmouth and Sanderstead to continue my training.
In early 2009 the club changed name to Bu Jutsu Ryu Karate Do and became associated with the Tokon Do Karate Union; a new association formed by Sensei Len Norman.
In addition to regular training sessions the club also travels to Essex for the Southern Area Squad Training. This session is taken by the founder of the Tokon Do Karate Union (Sensei Len Norman). The Southern Area England Squad is chosen at one of these training sessions each year and is excellent training even if not selected for the team.
My two most memorable experiences since beginning my training include earning my 1st Dan Black Belt on 3rd December 2003 and an amazing trip to Okinawa (Japan) to train under Master Meitatsu Yagi (10th Dan).
