About Me
Portsmouth University Radio Experience - Pure FM
I first joined Pure FM in my first year of university and absolutely loved it. My involvement with the station over the years has included presenting two shows as a solo presenter and two shows with a co-host. In addition I have been part of the Music Team, Head of Technology, Personnel and Training Manager and finally Support Team.
Music Team
In my earlier days of Pure FM, there was one one committee role that was solely in charge of organing everything music related within the station. This included reviewing promotional CD's that we were sent from record companies, writing music reviews for the site, censoring any explicit content from songs and adding new music to the automated playout software (Jazler). The Music Manager was assisted by the Music Team.
Head of Technology
This position is very demanding and requires a good understanding of most of the inner workings of the radio station. The Head of Technology is responsible for the servers, website and studio equipment and if anything goes wrong, it is their job to fix it. The sort of equipment that Pure FM uses includes 2 mixing desks, 4 CD players, 5 workstations, an outside broadcast kit, an internal Cisco switch, three servers and a lot of cabling to make everything work!
Personnel and Training Manager
Personnel and Training Manager is a position that does what it says on the tin. The holder of this role is responsible for the training and constant monitoring of any presenters that wish to have a show. As well as training, this position requires the holder to handle the initial stages of any disciplinary action that is taken against a presenter.
Web Team
In this day and age almost everyone has a website and Pure FM is no exception. Pure FM holds a number of domains, although the most used one is www.purefm.com. In my final year of university I decided that Personnel and Training Manager was not enough excitement for me and therefore I also joined the Web Team. This team looks after the website and reports to the Website Manager.
Support Team
After leaving university I continued to assist the station in the role of the Support Team. This team was formed of ex-members of the university that have already, "been there and done that." They are there to advise and assist the current committee. As a member of the Support Team I was one of the three main developers responsible for the 2007 rebrand.
Past events saw the Support Team disbanded by the committee and therefore by the end of the 2009 academic year, all input from the Support Team was removed.
